Clara just turned eight and she loves arts and crafts. This week we surprised her with her very own art station in her room! She loved it so much she’s been in their every afternoon creating away.
We used to keep all our supplies in a cabinet in the dining room, but that got taken over by soccer cubbies filled with bags and gear. So I thought why not put them in her room where she doesn’t have to clean up her jewelry station or painting setup for dinner. I used all acrylic containers so she can see everything on display on her shelves.
She went to her friend’s house Sunday afternoon and I thought that would be the perfect time to set everything up and surprise her. I told her I was going to organize everything but she had no idea I was going to put all these supplies here for her to use whenever she likes!
You’ll have to watch the video to see her sweet reaction. (She does not fake it when the camera is on that’s for sure. You should see her birthday video where she sighs and says, “More clothes. More clothes.”)
But first I had to clean and organize. Every six months or so her room needs a major purge of plastic nonsense and deep clean.

Finally, two trash bags and two sweeps later, it was time to put all these beautiful containers I found to use! I knew I wanted to use acrylic so she could see everything. Target had some great choices with gold accents at reasonable prices so I started there. Next I filled in with some budget-friendly finds on Amazon.
(I tried to take out the Christmas tree as we are entering June, but she put it back. Haha! I get it. Sparkly twinkle lights can never be wrong.)

I knew I wanted tiered trays to hold a variety of construction paper, because when kids see a color they want they dig to the bottom and then the whole pile is a wadded mess. This way she can pick grab a piece without disturbing the whole pile. This pretty gold tiered organizer goes perfect with the gold accents on the other pieces. It comes with a sectioned tray that goes on top too.

I love this gold and acrylic rotating caddy so much I got two. They’re perfect for sectioning everything out. I used one for drawing and one for craft supplies.

We have beads, beads and more beads! I thought this acrylic jewelry drawer organizer would be perfect to keep them organized in one place. She can pull out one drawer at a time in hopes that if there is a spill it won’t be the whole thing! Because it’s happened. It has adjustable sectioned inserts.

What’s a craft station without paints? It makes me happy to see them all laid out in this paint storage organizer instead of the broken bin we used to keep them in on a top shelf we couldn’t reach. Seeing what you have makes you want to use it more!

I bought two of these acrylic boxes to hold sets of things like melty beads, paint by number and rubber band bracelet kit. The gold pull detail is a pretty touch.

This desk has been around the block a few times. My mom bought it at a garage sale when I was a kid and I’ve had it ever since. Now it’s Clara girl’s. So it’s ok if it sees some spills or marks. “Adds character.”

I wanted to keep her desk cleared for the most part so she has space to sit down with whatever she decides to pull from her craft shelf, but I did add this gold and acrylic desk caddy for her most used things like pencils, scissors, tape and glue stick.

To get her nightlight and sound machine off her desk, I put them on a tray and used this laundry basket as a nightstand. It’s great because her extra stuffed animals fit in there. Because you know you can’t ever give away a doll or stuffy. Ever.

And that’s it! A quick little organize and refresh. It’s interesting to see how our house continues to evolve and change as we need it to. She sure is happy with her new little set up and so am I.
