Brass was all the rage in the ’90s. Then everyone went for brushed nickel (which I still love!) and now brass is back! Well, I know that’s not breaking news. It’s been back for awhile, but it always takes me a minute to hop onto trends.

This wall full of switches was a bit of an eye sore. The plates were cracked, dirty and had tape residue. And the security system looks dated.

I planned on cleaning the switches and replacing the covers, and thought why not bronze!? And this frame I had fit nicely over the security panel.
These wall plates were part in stock at Home Depot and part in stock on this other site, Wallplate Warehouse. After I ordered them I realized I bought half in Satin Brass and half in Brushed Bronze!

The difference is Satin Brass is a little more gold (right) and Brushed bronze is slightly more dull. I preferred the Brushed Bronze, but there are still a few Satin Brasses around here because of stock issues. Ok, you got me — and laziness!

These are Satin Brass because I liked the way they worked with the frame. I took off the white covers and used a toothbrush to scrub the switches clean.
There doesn’t seem to be any problem with fingerprints so far.

I went ahead and got them for all the switches! Because these weren’t looking so good either. (They photograph so differently depending on the light.)

I think they add a nice touch. Have you added any gold around your house?
