Make it gold

Give old items new life with gold spray paint

I bought a can of gold metallic spray paint and I can’t stop making things gold.

I had a hodgepodge of stuff from neighbors (I guess we look like good candidates for unwanted stuff?), and I wanted to see if I could somehow make them work in my guest room plan. It was super fast and turned out pretty well!

Update a lamp with gold spay paint

I started with this brown lamp that had a burlap fabric shade. I was surprised the gold finish was so smooth on the glass base.

I painted the shade, too, but with regular old wall paint and a sponge brush — just because that’s what I had on hand.

I’m sure it’s not what a professional would do, but it works for me. And it was free!

Make a lamp gold with three dollars

Here it is in the room. I especially like the gold against the navy walls.

Next, I sprayed this little vase gold.

And then I gave a new image to this serving tray with creepy birds.

My husband asked me if planned on painting everything in the house gold. I told him I still have half a can left, so nothing is safe.

I’m getting close to finishing the room and will be sure to share it with you when that day finally comes!

  1. 1. I love gold, and I’m glad I’m not alone.
    2. I’m so glad I found your “how to design your new house room by room” post, because it changed how I’m thinking about my fiance and my first home together drastically and will probably save me tons of money through planning and repurposing (gold-ing)
    3. I love your personal style quiz recommendations, but none of them had an image I love as much as your creepy bird serving tray (pre-golding) so I guess that’s my style profile. Classic European with lots of creepy birds hahah.

  2. Haha! The creepy bird tray. Like they say, one woman’s trash (or pre-gold tray) is another woman’s classic European treasure :) So glad you stopped by and took the time to leave me a note!
