Can we still be friends if I tell you that I have a very limited tolerance for Christmas music? I can’t believe I just put that out there on the internet. Don’t throw any garland or ornaments at me. I envy the Buddy the Elf types, but I made a Christmas playlist for we slightly more Grinchy types. I chose songs with a vintage feel — think Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald — that are a little more doable to me.
There are fun songs and traditional songs, but I like the way they fit together in this style. Have a listen and see what you think.
We’re having fun with our activity advent calendar so far. I’ve noticed a significant improvement with meltdowns and bickering from this year to last. Oh, they still argue and try to irritate each other, but last year I was trying to skip it on the days they forgot. It was hardly worth trying to make them take turns and/or being disappointed it wasn’t hot chocolate day!
I warned them this year if they are not pleased with the activity, then they an go in their room and play something else, but you better not pout, you better not cry. I’m telling you why. Actually that song did not make my list. And my boys don’t believe in Santa, but that’s a story for another day.
Here’s what we’ve got going on so far.
The kids decorated their tree and I decorated my tree this year ;)
I’ve had a few requests to show the nativity my father-in-law in Italy made. He had it shipped here several years ago. He found the hand-painted figures in Marcello’s hometown. So it’s special and the kids make me nervous with it! This is how they set it up and Daddy’s tradition is that we don’t put baby Jesus in the manger until Christmas morning. Isn’t that sweet?
I think one of the boys’ favorite Christmas activities is to decorate their rooms and sleep with the lights on.
